Make a Plan:

  • Know your evacuation zone and route. Evacuation Zone Map
  • Designate a safe place to go—whether it’s a shelter, a friend’s home, or outside the evacuation zone.
  • Have a communication plan to check in with family members.
  • Non-perishable food and water (1 gallon per person per day)
  • Flashlights, batteries, and battery-powered radio
  • Medications and first-aid supplies
  • Important documents (IDs, insurance, deeds) in a waterproof container
  • Chargers and backup power banks
  • Pet supplies

Look for announcements on Florida's Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday at the beginning of June.

Protect Your Property

  • Trim trees and remove debris from yards well before a storm approaches.
  • Check your roof, windows, and doors for vulnerabilities.
  • Install storm shutters

Sandbag Information

Depending on the forecast strength and track of a tropical system, the city may elect to give out sandbags to residents. Traditionally, the city’s sandbag distribution site has been locate in the parking lot south of Melching Field, 601 South Woodland Boulevard, at the corner of East Hubbard Avenue and South Woodland Boulevard.

City Services

When a tropical system is expected to affect our area, the city will typically activate our Emergency Operations Center. During that time, our normal business operations will usually close until it is safe and our Emergency Services remain operational through the duration of the storm. 

Waste & Debris Collection

Waste Collection
When a hurricane is projected to hit our area, waste collection services are usually suspended until it is safe to pick up again. Any suspensions in service will be announced on our website and via social media. 

Debris Collection
If enough vegetative debris is produced by a storm, the city will contract with an outside contractor to pick it up. Those services will be announced several days to weeks after the storm. However, if you have vegetative debris from a storm, please place it as neatly as possible by the curb and keep it separate from things like construction debris (broken fences, roofing, etc.)

Should debris removal be needed, please separate storm debris and leave it un-bagged.

Emergency Updates

The City of DeLand has implemented Alert DeLand, an emergency public notification system. The program allows the city to contact the entire community or to target specific areas in case of an emergency or for urgent situations that require the public's immediate attention such as natural disasters (hurricane or tornado warnings), road closures, missing person cases and more.

Users can choose how they want to receive alerts. You can choose to receive alerts on your home or business phone, mobile phone, email, text messages or more based on your settings.
